We are on Day 9 of “God Calls You By Name” Series. This week we talked about being a friend of God, being redeemed and forgiven by God, being a new creation in Christ, and being blessed by God. I pray this series is touching your life and helping you grow spiritually. I know it has blessed me by being reminded of who Christ is in our lives.
Today, we will talk about being God’s beloved. The word, beloved, means to be adored, cherished, treasured, highly regarded, admired, esteemed, worshiped, idolized, and precious. Some other words that describe beloved are sweetheart, love, and lover. Slowly read the description above. I am in awe of who we are in Christ. We are loved, beyond comprehension, by an Almighty God.
First John 3:1 tells us to “see what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” In the English Standard Version, it states we are His beloved. This is breathtaking! We need to declare that we are God’s beloved. We are precious in His sight!
Psalm 17:8 is a prayer to God saying, “keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” Deuteronomy 33:12 answers that prayer by stating, “the beloved of the Lord rest secure in Him, for He shields Him all day long, and the one the Lord loves between his shoulders.” We are protected by God because of His unfailing love for us. He shields us from danger every day and gives us warnings before we approach danger.
In Matthew 17:5, God calls Jesus His beloved son. How incredible is it that God calls us the same name as Jesus?! Ephesians 5:1-2 instructs us to “follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children, and walk in the way of love just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” We are to love others the same way God loves us. We can only love like God by having a relationship with Him and experiencing His love.
You are God’s beloved! I encourage you to believe that you are dearly loved by God.
