We are on Day 6 of “God Calls You By Name” Series. Today, we will talk about how we are redeemed and forgiven by God. We are redeemed by Jesus’ blood on the cross. In Ephesians 1:7, it says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
The meaning of redemption is to buy or pay off a payment. It is to make up or amend a wrong. Forgiveness means to pardon an offense or an offender. It also means to cancel an indebtedness or liability of. Jesus cancelled our debt in exchange for His life. His blood cleansed us from our sin.
Romans 3:24 says we “all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” We are freed from our sin by God’s grace because of the cross. This is the second Scripture I have referred to that speaks about going through Jesus to be redeemed. Isaiah 54:5 declares God is our redeemer.
We should be thankful every day for God’s grace. He pays off our debt and forgives us for our sin. God paid a huge price to cancel our debt. We need to appreciate everything He has done for us. We are redeemed and forgiven by an Almighty God!
